Miranda’s Vase (2017)

Miranda's Vase was created in the summer of 2017 when watching Sex and the City, relentlessly. Miranda Hobbes' fireplace mantel is home to a number of vases, and although out of focus on the screen, the curvature of one vase inspired this series of evolving shapes and colours. This series was arranged and on display as part of a group show in the Belgo Building, Montreal. A book was later published.

As humans, we tend to live in the past or future, rarely giving the present moment our full attention: a mentality that leaves our immediate surroundings unnoticed. The concept of my video is to create photographic compositions in select locations, and film what happens naturally within each frame. This allows viewers to observe the subtle and drastic changes that may occur through stillness and motion — an experience through sight and sound. The series of static compositions will be an extension of my photographic aesthetic, in which I bring attention to the overlooked and under appreciated aspects of our world. Common themes within my work are light and shadow, form and colour, and the relationship between positive and negative space. Watch the full video here.
